Dreading those air conditioning electric bills this summer?
Don’t worry! Here are a few tips that may help you keep your bill more manageable and your A/C lasting longer.
1) Check your filter – One of the easiest things you can do to cut down on your air conditioner’s power consumption is to clean or replace your filter…regularly. Check every six months or so (just before spring is a great time) to see if it’s clogged with dirt and dust. Change it out (they aren’t expensive) and you’ll notice a big difference in that electric bill.
2) Clear debris – Outside A/C units have a coil that determines just how efficiently it runs. It requires proper air flow, so go outside and make sure there is plenty of space around your A/C’s vents. Clear any weeds or other items that may be blocking air from getting in and out. Go ahead and use your hose to clean the coil or any other part of your A/C that looks a bit dirty – don’t worry about getting things wet, the electrical system is protected against weather.
3) Call All Phase Heating & Air Conditioning – Air conditioning units have other parts that are a bit more complicated to clean or repair. If you’ve replaced your filter and cleaned the outside unit and your A/C is still running rough, it may need a professional to take it the rest of the way. Considering the savings, it’s well worth making sure that your A/C is in tip-top shape before the summer heat. Yearly maintenance will also lengthen the life of your air conditioner…by years.
The tips above alone can save you up to 15 percent on your energy bill. If your A/C unit is older than 10 years, you could save more than 15 percent by replacing your air conditioning system with a modern, energy efficient Bryant air conditioner. Bryant was recently rated #1 by Consumer Reports.
